Hitachi Ltd. (Japan) announced the release of the HD74ALVC163245 and HD74ALVC164245 high-speed voltage translator ICs that support a 16-bit bus width and are capable of operating down to 1.2V, making them suitable for use in compact, low-voltage, high-speed systems such as digital cameras and battery-powered, portable mobile phones.

Manufactured using a 0.35µm process, both devices enable high-speed, bi-directional data transfer between different voltages ranging from 1.2V to 3.6V, with minimal power consumption. Over a 16-bit bus they support a maximum data transfer rate of 4.4ns. In addition, the ICs incorporate an I/O tolerant function that reduces system power consumption by preventing current from flowing into the voltage translator IC when the system is powered down.

The devices are available in 8.1mm x 12.5mm x 1.2mm, 48-pin TSSOPs and are priced at about $0.85 each for 10,000 or more units.
