Ericsson Unveils PKM4000D Series Quarter-Brick Converters

Ericsson Power Modules (Sweden) unveiled its PKM4000D Series of dc-dc quarter-brick converters, which offers designers a cost-effective and high-performance solution suitable for use in telecom and datacom equipment, as well as industrial and many other applications. Developed on a bullet-proof platform, the family is designed specifically to provide an optimized cost/performance ratio for today and tomorrow’s applications.

As part of Ericsson Power Modules’ third generation of dc-dc power modules, first two products of the PKM-D family, the PKM4110D and PKM4119D are rated at 3.3 V at 35 A and 2.5 V at 40 A, respectively. The PKM-D family will also embrace converters with voltage outputs of 1.2 V, 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 5.0 V and 12.0 V.

The fully DfE-compliant and RoHS-compliant converters offer high-efficiency figures due to a patented synchronous rectification technique developed by Ericsson Power Modules’ for use in its higher-power series of converters to achieve efficiency at high currents and low voltages. The technique provides a low component count and provides reliability at a low cost. The converters feature an optimized layout that reduces hotspots to an absolute minimum. The factors are combined to create a family of reliable products.

Featuring an input-voltage range of 36 V to 75 V, the PKM-D platform uses an integrated magnet design to achieve its quarter-brick format. All models in the family offer current limit, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection. Other features include remote sensing, output-voltage adjust, and remote control.
