EnerSys Intros PowerSafe DDm Battery System

January 19, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

The Reserve Power Group of EnerSys Inc. (Reading, PA) introduced a new battery system that combines an enhanced cell design with an integral racking system, which is easy to install and maintain. The new PowerSafe DDm battery system provides long service life and performance for a variety of applications that require large capacity valve-regulated batteries, including telecommunications, power generation and distribution, and uninterruptible power supply applications.

The cell design of the DDm incorporates thick 0.25in positive plates for a long battery life of up to 20 years. The battery cells have welded epoxy, dual-post seals that are 100-percent water bath tested in the factory and provide a high seal integrity. Lead-casted terminal posts include a large threaded copper insert that enhances the high-rate performance by providing maximum conductivity.

The PowerSafe DDm battery cells are encased in protective steel cans, or modules, that provide uniform and consistent compression for the life of the cell. The module design incorporates thermal management that allows maximum airflow. The batteries provide minimized maintenance costs, using proven gas-recombinant, valve-regulated, lead-acid technology that eliminates the need for watering. EnerSys offers a wide range of models from 200Ah to 2,000Ah in a single cell. The new racking systems are certified to 1997 UBC Zone 4 and are UL-recognized.

Pricing for the PowerSafe DDm batteries start at $295. Delivery is four to six weeks ARO.
