Emerson Expands its Astec 1U Switcher Line for High-Density Distributed Architecture Applications
Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson, has expanded its Astec NTS Series line of 350W bulk ac–dc switching power supplies from Astec Power to include new 54V output configurations. Available with convection cooling or optional forced-air, the compact units are well-suited for designs using distributed power architecture. The high-density NTS359 models feature a compact 4-inch by 7-inch footprint for an impressive 8.3W per cubic inch. Operating at 85 percent efficiency, the convection-cooled configuration provides 200W for 1U (1.75-inch high) rack-mount chassis and other low-profile applications, while the fan-cooled option supplies the full rated output up to 50 C with 30 CFM forced air. For added flexibility, the units can be set up for lengthwise or crosswise airflow.
With active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the compact Astec NTS359 switchers accept input from 85-264Vac or 120-320Vdc. The devices are also suited for use as ac–dc front ends for dc–dc converters in a wide variety of applications including telecommunications, networking, test and measurement, single-board computers and gigabit Ethernet devices. A built-in O–ring diode eliminates the need for external circuitry when using the device in a redundant configuration. The units also include a 12V 1A auxiliary output and 5V at 2A standby output as well as overload, over-voltage and thermal protection.
The Astec NTS359 models incorporate built-in Class B EMI filtering, remote sense, remote inhibit and single-wire parallel on the primary output that enables current-sharing to balance loads. With an operating temperature range of 0 to 50 C without derating, the units can function up to 70 C by derating the output 2.5 percent per degree C. They comply with IEC EN61000-3-2 harmonic and IEC EN61000-4-X susceptibility standards.
Available now, pricing begins at $299 in OEM quantities. Forced-air units with a top cover fan are designated by a CF suffix on the model number.
