Emerson Adds Models to Astec 1U Switcher Line

June 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power (Carlsbad, CA), a business of Emerson, announced that it has added a new 48 V model to its popular Astec NTS Series line of 350 W, bulk ac-dc switching power supplies. Available with convection cooling or optional forced-air, the units are suited for product designs using distributed power architecture. The devices are also suitable as ac-dc front ends for dc-dc converters in telecommunications, networking, test and measurement, single-board computers and gigabit Ethernet devices.

Weighing 8.3 W/in³, the high-density NTS358 models feature a 4 in x 7 in footprint, and operate at 85% efficiency. The convection-cooled models work well in 1U (1.75 in high) rack-mount chassis or other low-profile applications. Featuring active power-factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the Astec NTS358 is a compact 85 Vac to 264 Vac power supply that can deliver a full rated output of 350 W with 30 CFM forced air or 200 W with convection cooling. The device also features a 12 V, 1 A auxiliary output and 5 V at 2 A standby output as well as overload, over-voltage and thermal protection.

With an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C without de-rating, the units can function at up to 70 °C by de-rating the output 2.5%/°C. The Astec NTS358 models have a demonstrated mean time between failures of more than one million hours at full load in 25 °C ambient conditions.

Available now, pricing begins at $299 in OEM quantities.
