Eltek Boosts Data Security of DC Power Systems with Support for SNMPv3
Eltek ASA strengthened the data security of its dc power systems today with the announcement of support for simple network management protocol version 3.0 (SNMPv3) on its Smartpack2, Smartpack S and Compack controllers. SNMPv3 provides data encryption of all information transmitted between the controller and the user, message integrity to ensure that data is not tampered with while en route and authentication that data comes from a valid source. With the built-in security features of SNMPv3, these Eltek controllers provide added protection against potential hackers who may try to tamper with the power systems.
“Data security is increasingly a challenge for our customers, and Eltek is proud to be at the forefront of data and control security for power systems,†said Morten Schoyen, Eltek Chief Marketing Officer. “Support for SNMPv3, when combined with the other alarming and hardening we have, makes us the market leader in secure systems.â€
SNMPv3 is now deployed on the company’s three main controller platforms: Smartpack2: The Smartpack2 controller works with Eltek’s flagship DC power systems including the Flatpack2, Trilogy and Modular product families. The Smartpack2 controller offers system configuration, alarms and setup, rectifier/charge control, testing and data logging. The controller has a fully distributed architecture with three components: the master controller, the system basic controller and the I/O monitor.
Smartpack S: Designed for the Flatpack S DC power system, the Smartpack S controller has the full functionality of the Smartpack2, but in a smaller form factor so that it can be used in space-restricted telecom applications.
Compack: Eltek’s Compack controller works with its smaller DC power systems including the Micropack, MicroShelf and Wallbox products. It is designed for use in wireless network small cells, industrial SCADA and other applications. It offers Ethernet-based remote or local monitoring and automatic battery monitoring and testing.
The Eltek controllers include a unique and user-friendly web interface for setup and configuration of SNMPv3 specific parameters and features. This helps the user to get started with SNMPv3. The SNMP-based setup and configuration from the network management interface is also available as default for more experienced users.
