ELDCs offered in Power and Energy Versions

June 26, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new series of ENYCAP™ electrical double-layer energy storage capacitors for energy harvesting, power backup, and UPS power source applications. Available in power and energy versions with high stability, Vishay BCcomponents 220 EDLC ENYCAP series devices deliver high power density and capacitance values in small case sizes ranging from 16mm by 20mm to 18mm by 31mm.

For the industrial, telecom, and PC markets, the polarized energy storage capacitors released today offer power density to 4.1Wh/kg, capacitance values from 15F to 40F, and a maximum rated voltage of 2.7V. 220 EDLC ENYCAP series devices feature very low internal resistance and rapid charge and discharge performance. The through-hole capacitors offer long leads and are RoHS-compliant.

Specifications for the Energy series include: capacitance of 15F to 35F; maximum peak current at 65 degrees C of 25A; leakage current after 0.5h of 6mA to 15mA; stored energy at 65 degrees C of 0.015Wh to 0.035Wh; and specific energy at 65 degrees C of 2.5Wh/kg to 3.5Wh/kg.

Specifications for the Power series include: capacitance of 20F to 40F; maximum peak current at 65 degrees C of 25A to 35A; leakage current after 0.5h of 8mA to 20mA; stored energy at 65 degrees C of 0.020Wh to 0.041Wh; and specific energy at 65 degrees C of 3.4Wh/kg to 4.1Wh/kg.

Samples and production quantities of the 220 EDLC ENYCAP series devices are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger quantities. Pricing for U.S. delivery only starts at $1.30 per piece.
