Eaton Introduces 825 kVA UPS For Large Data Center Applications

June 24, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Eaton Corp. announced a new and extended power rating (a 825 kVA offering) for its Powerware 9395 uninterruptible power system (UPS). The Powerware 9395 825 kVA UPS follows the capabilities introduced to the market with the 2007 launch of the 275 and 550 kVA systems.

The Powerware 9395 offers what is described as unmatched power performance with greater than 94% efficiency across a wide load range while providing simple and cost-saving scalability. The 9395 UPS has been widely adopted in organizations around the world as varied as financial institutions, telecom companies, research and medical facilities and manufacturing sites where data processing, storage and power protection are critical to business continuity.

"With the information and data explosion associated with online transactions, Internet applications and overall data center growth, our customers are asking for more powerful UPS systems to support their critical business processes," said Jim Davis, Three-Phase UPS Business Unit Manager, Eaton Power Quality Division. "With the introduction of our 825 kVA model, the Powerware 9395 meets today’s need for more powerful UPSs but also allows our customers to efficiently power their data centers regardless of actual load levels."

The Powerware 9395 features a scalable architecture that is described as easily adaptable to changing power requirements. In today’s environment where data center growth can be unpredictable, the 9395 is designed to be field upgradeable by adding additional modules to achieve N+1 redundancy or to provide additional capacity. According to the company, the device provides this scalability through its patented Hot Sync® technology that has been deployed in Powerware UPS systems for more than 20 years.

"This ‘wireless paralleling’ technology enables each UPS to operate autonomously without the need for centralized controllers or complicated, failure-prone control wiring," added Davis. "In the 9395 offering, the Hot Sync technology has been enhanced to allow UPSs with different power ratings to be paralleled together, providing even more flexibility in data center applications."

The Powerware 9395 825 kVA UPS is available for shipment in July 2008.
