di/dt Presents New Semi H Family of DC/DC Converters

September 18, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

di/dt Inc. (Carlsbad, CA) announced the new Semi H™ family of dc/dc converters in the half-brick format, which have a package size that is only 70 percent the area of conventional half bricks, but preserve the same pin out and functionality.

The SHM48T30 and SHM48T40 are the first two series of products in the Semi H family, and deliver 30A and 40A, respectively, of output current with minimal derating at elevated temperatures and low airflow. The 3.3V versions have an efficiency of 92 percent at full load and 92.5 percent at half load. The SHM48 converters not only provide superior thermal performance but also serve as an immediate cost-reduced, drop-in replacement for competing half-brick converters.

The Semi H converters come in an open-frame package that does not require a heatsink, and are assembled with 100-percent automation. The converters have dimensions of 1.70in x 2.30in x 0.34in (43.2mm x 58.4mm x 8.6mm) and weigh 1.3oz (36g). The 30A and 40A SHM48 converters operate from an input voltage of 36V to 75V, and are available in standard output voltages of 3.3V, 2.5V, 2.0V, 1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V and 1.0V.

The Semi H converters meet the basic insulation requirements of EN60950, and come with industry-standard features such as remote-sense, input under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown, remote on/off, output voltage-adjust pin, output over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protections.

In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the SHM48T30 is priced at $79, and the SHM48T40 is priced at $87. Samples are available now.
