Delta Announces Addition To Family Of Integrated POL Products

May 21, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Delta Electronics, Inc. has introduced the MCM 3A and 10A non-isolated, fully integrated, Point-of-Load (POL) power modules into their Delphi series of board mounted dc-dc power converters. The company claims that the MCM POL products were developed as an inexpensive alternative to many discrete on-board solutions.

The Delphi series MCM12S03 POL unit provides up to 3A and the MCM12S10 POL unit provides up to 10A of output current in what is described as a compact, very low profile, IC-like, extremely easy to use, miniaturized molded package that is very competitively priced compared to many discrete on-board solutions.

Delta has integrated all the components for these non-isolated POL converters into a single IC-like package. The MCM12S03 and MCM12S10 units need very few to no external components to provide their point-of-load function. The MCM12S10 is offered in 15 x 15 x 3.5mm SMD package and MCM12S03 is offered in 18.6 x 12.5 x 4.2mm SMD package. These units operate from a 7V~13.2V input and provide a wide range of output voltages from 0.6V~2.5V . The MCM POL’s feature remote on/off and a power good signal. Copper pads on the back of the modules, in close contact with the internal heat dissipation components, are said to provide excellent thermal performance, as well as extremely high reliability under highly stressful operating conditions. The assembly process of the modules is fully automated with no manual assembly involved.

The IC-like MCM12S03 and MCM12S10 units offer high efficiency of up to 94% at full load. The MCM12S03 and MCM12S10 will meet MSL level 3 and lead free process compatible.

Delphi series MCM12S03 and MCM12S10 POL converter samples are available now. In OEM quantities of 10K pieces, the unit price is US$4.40 for 3A and US$4.50 for 10A. Standard lead-time for this product is from stock to 8 weeks, depending on the volume.
