Configurable Convection-Cooled DC-DC Converters Deliver 800W

October 06, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Gaia Converter has announced the GPACK family of military-grade configurable dc-dc converters that deliver up to 800W without a fan to deliver output voltages of 24-28Vdc for avionics, aerospace, military and missile applications. With input voltage ranges of 9-45Vdc or 16-80Vdc, the GPACK is an all-in-one, EMI, MIL-STD-461or DO-160 and transient MIL-STD-704 or MIL-STD-1275 compliant, reverse polarity protected, single or multi-output complete power supply solution.

The GPACK is configurable with up to four independent output lines of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V and 28V. Each is capable of delivering up to 200W which can be serialized or paralleled and independently trimmed by the user; this provides maximum versatility and flexibility for multiple output voltages. The four output lines can be sequenced independently with remote on/off during the start-up phase or with a general on/off function. Each output incorporates a complete suite of protection functions including under voltage lockout, over voltage protection, current limit and over temperature protection; all are permanently short circuit proof.

The GPACK also features an internal hold-up capability that can be enhanced with an external battery bus for additional back-up potential. The flange-based, fanless enclosure has uniquely compact overall dimensions of 200 mm x 100 mm x 60 mm, and the GPACK delivers its 800W of power with a baseplate temperature of up to 85°C. For applications requiring higher power levels, GPACKS can be configured in arrays with box-to-box current sharing.
