Commergy 400W AC-DC Delivers 20W/in³ at 90Vac
Commergy has announced its Breeze™ mid-power topology for server, storage, computing and communications applications. A demonstration 12V/33A reference design is currently in production in China and features 400W in an industry standard 3" by 5" 1U (76mm x127mmx 33mm) open frame product with 20W/in³ power density and 89.5% efficiency at a 90Vac line voltage with 10.5 cubic feet per minute of cooling air.
The key to this performance is a new power conversion topology (named BreezeTM) from Commergy (patent pending) that provides high-efficiency even at low-line voltages thus eliminating the need for excessive low-line derating.
"We are conscious of a need for low-cost, high power density solutions in the 300 to 1000W region that do not need derating by 30% for equipment to be shipped world-wide when 90Vac operation is mandatory. With our Breeze™ topology, we provide a low stressed design, based on standard components utilising our patented three stage of power conversion process," stated Dr. George Young, CEO and CTO of Commergy.
"Our business model is built on licensing our topologies and designs – therefore our reference designs have to be capable of being built anywhere. In essence we fast-track our customers into new markets with a de-risked topology coupled with as much support as they will need. We train our customers' engineers to use our topology and our reference designs as part of our support services," Young concluded.
The 400W Breeze™ is the first of a planned new generation of high efficiency power supplies based on Commergy's new proprietary, power topology targeted at 1U and 2U applications. Other features in the reference design include: medical approval, current share, N+1 operation, 5V at 2A standby and remote enable and wide operating temperatures in forced air environment.
Evaluation product can be ordered from Commergy, 400W units are available with a complete evaluation report.
