C&D Technologies Debuts NNL05S04/S12 Converters
C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) announced two new high-efficiency, non-isolated, dc/dc converters targeted at intermediate bus distributed power architectures. Suitable for applications ranging from servers to telecommunications equipment, the new NNL05S04 and NNL05S12 will suit a variety of designs that require accurate voltage outputs for high-performance FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs and microprocessors.
Designed for use with nominal 3V to 5.5V and 10.8V to 13.2V intermediate bus architectures, respectively, the NNL05S04 and NNL05S12 deliver high-precision output voltages and a maximum 5A output current. Typical efficiency levels are up to 93%. A compact, low-profile form factor and built-in protection functionality simplifies the design of new applications, while industry-standard surface-mount and SIP formats ensures that the devices are also suited as 'drop-in' replacements in existing products.
The new converters offer user-selectable output voltages of between 0.75V and 3.3V and feature a low typical output ripple and noise rating of just 24mV (peak-to-peak). Voltage accuracy is up to 0.3%, while typical line regulation and load regulation are 0.76% and 0.52%, respectively. Integrated functionality includes continuous short-circuit protection, output over-current protection, and over-temperature protection. A remote on/off capability is also built into each converter.
The NNL05S04 and NNL05S12 operate at temperatures from –40°C to +85°C. Surface-mount versions have dimensions of 20.2mm x 11.2mm x 5mm, while leaded versions measure 22.9mm x 10.2mm x 6.2mm. Both of the new devices are certified to all major international approvals standards, including UL 60950-1/EN60950-1, CSA C22.2, and VDE 0805:2001-12. Pricing for the converters is under $7 per device in OEM quantities.
