Carlo Gavazzi Announces New 6-Slot AdvancedTCA System in a 5U Configuration

New Products Jun 28, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions announced the 646 Series of its high-density 5U AdvancedTCA system, engineered to address demanding power, thermal management, and network equipment-building system (NEBs) requirements. The 646 Series is PICMG 3.0 Revision 2.0 compliant, fully deployable and suitable for high-bandwidth applications.

Offering the capacity of six slots in a 5U configuration, the 646 Series is claimed to provide a superior cost/slot ratio to other chassis on the market. The 646 Series is available in a "quick turn" option and can also be customized to meet individual customer specifications. The series is a scalable solution configured to maximize bandwidth with a six slot 3X replicated full mesh extended fabric connectivity interface. The signal integrity environment of each channel’s four ports have been optimized to handle SerDes devices up to 10Gbs, allowing the 646 Series to provide a total raw aggregate system bandwidth of 3.6 Tb/s, which is said to be four times that of a conventional ATCA System. The 646 Series’ backplane also features two rear-pluggable PEM interfaces and two front-pluggable system management modules.

Exceeding PICMG standards, two redundant, six-fan modules provide ample front-side cooling of 250W/slot and back-side cooling of 30W. The system’s front- and rear-removable push/push intelligent cooling modules optimize power dissipation while minimizing mean time to repair. The 646 Series’ thermal management system also features a removable NEBs filtered intake.

The dual-redundant shelf management modules of the 646 Series reside in a dedicated front panel slot and are available with either Pigeon Point ShMM-500R or Intel NetStructure® MPCMM0002 Chassis Management Module technology. All field-replaceable units are intelligent devices and communicate to the shelf managers through the IPMI.
