Beta Dyne Introduces EBL Series Of DC-DC Converters

February 07, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne, Inc. announced its new EBL Series of dc-dc converters. Based on patent pending technology for synchronous rectification and noise reduction, the EBL series packs up to 30W of output power into a six-sided shielded, metal case that measures only 2 x 1 x 0.45 inches (50.80 x 25.40 x 11.43mm).

According to the company, the series offers not only up to 90% efficiency, 10mV output noise and EMI and RFI reduction, but also allows for operation in free air environments unlike open-frame designs that typically require forced air cooling. Fifteen models will be available at launch (with custom models available upon request). The converters feature a 2:1 input voltage range (with nominal inputs of 12, 24 and 48Vdc) and a single output voltage of 2.5, 3.3, 5, 12 or 15Vdc.

Standard features include input-to-output isolation, soft start, external synchronization, input undervoltage protection, short circuit protection, and thermal protection. The standard operating temperature range is -40 to +71°C (-55 to 85°C models are also available on request).

The patent-pending synchronous rectification techniques and post linear regulation increase the converter’s efficiency (up to 90%) and allows for higher power density. The use of standard double-sided PCBs (as opposed to multilayered designs) helps to reduce cost.

Units are available 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing for the EBL series starts at $95.00 each; with discounts available for larger quantities.
