New Products Dec 26, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC), a manufacturer and supplier of passive electronic components and related products, has developed an 0402 surface-mount thermistor for applications such as mobile phones, hard disk drives, laptop computers and compact disc players. Designated the NB23 Series, the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors are specifically designed for temperature compensation and control applications in hand-held and portable electronics equipment.

The NB23 Series features resistance values from 10 kΩ to 100 kΩ, with standard tolerances of 5%, 10% and 20%. Maximum dissipation is 150 mW, with a thermal dissipation factor of 0.8 mW/°C, and a thermal time constant of 3 sec. The operating temperature range is from -55 °C to +150 °C. The NB23 Series thermistors also feature a nickel barrier termination that provides solderability for lead-free (high-temperature) soldering processes. In addition, AVX offers NTC thermistors in 0603, 0805 and 1206 case sizes, as well as a comprehensive range of leaded thermistor devices.

Typical pricing starts at $0.11 in quantities of 10,000. Lead times are from stock to eight weeks.
