AVX Debuts LICA Capacitor Array Family

May 29, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC) announced its expanded LICA® family of low-inductance capacitor arrays. With inductance values as low as 15pH, the LICA arrays perform high-speed decoupling for multiple signal paths in high-frequency switching applications. To maintain the minimum board-mounted profile and low-inductance values, the LICA arrays utilize controlled collapse chip connection (C4) "flip-chip" technology, to provide reliable, low-inductance terminations while using the minimum amount of printed circuit board real estate.

The LICA arrays now offer a low-profile design with a maximum height of 0.50mm to satisfy the requirements of constantly shrinking electronics. Applications for the LICA arrays include ASIC/microprocessor and high-frequency decoupling. Optimized for performance at an ambient temperature range of –55°C to +125°C, the arrays are available in single, double and quad capacitor configurations. Typical equivalent series inductance is as low as 30nH with a high CV of 270nF. The inductance specifications for the LICA range from 15pH to 120pH, depending on design.

Typical pricing for the LICA ranges from $0.85 to $2.50 (dependent upon design) in large OEM quantities with lead times from stock to 8 to 10 weeks.
