AnalogicTech Offers AAT2500/AAT2510 Voltage Regulators

August 30, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech, Sunnyvale, CA), a developer of power management solutions, announced two new step-down voltage regulators that combine multiple voltage regulators on a single chip. Targeted at systems running on single lithium-ion/polymer batteries, the AAT2500 combines a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator with a 400 mA dc-dc step-down converter. For applications with greater efficiency concerns, the AAT2510 brings together two 400 mA dc-dc step-down converters. Both devices cover an input-voltage range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V.

The LDO in the AAT2500 features an independent input and can deliver up to 300 mA of current. It offers fast transient response and a power supply rejection ratio of 67 dB (typical). The AAT2500's 1 MHz step-down converter features peak current mode control with internal compensation to deliver stable performance with a small 4.7 µF ceramic output capacitor for low output ripple. The high-efficiency converter offers a low 25 µA no-load quiescent current. Its low dropout 100-percent duty cycle and smart circuitry allow the AAT2500 to operate with low input-to-output voltage headroom, extending battery run time and maximizing standby time.

Also designed to minimize external components count and cost, the AAT2510 dual-channel 400 mA step-down converter offers many of the same features, including internal compensation and a low 25 &microA quiescent current per channel. The output voltage on the AAT2510 is either fixed or externally adjustable, and ranges from 0.6 V to the maximum applied input voltage. Both the AAT2500 and the AAT2510 have internal soft-start, over-temperature, and current-limit protection. In addition, both products provide channel-to-channel isolation to reduce noise in the system.

Rated over the -40 °C to +85 °C temperature range, AAT2500 and AAT2510 devices are available in lead-free, thermally enhanced, 12-pin, TDFN33 packages. The AAT2500 and AAT2510 devices are priced at $1.27 and $1.88, respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities.
