AnalogicTech Intros AAT3682 Li-Ion/Polymer Battery Charger

February 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech, Sunnyvale, CA), a developer of power management solutions, introduced its AAT3682, a new lithium-ion (Li-Ion)/polymer linear battery charger with an integrated pass device. Designed for compact portable applications, the AAT3682 supports all charging modes and features an embedded microcontroller serial interface to communicate the state of the battery to the system.

The AAT3682 supplies a 650 mA charging current over a 4.7 V to 6.0 V input range. It supports all charging phases, including pre-conditioning or trickle charge for deep cell discharge conditioning, constant current for maximum charging speed, and constant voltage for final battery top-off. An embedded microcontroller serial interface indicates to the system the state of the battery, whether it is charging or in an error condition. Quiescent current is typically 0.5 mA. In deep-sleep mode, the device draws 3 µA of current (typical).

Specified over the -20 °C to +70 °C temperature range, the AAT3682 is now available in a 16-pin QFN44 package. The device is priced at $1.27 in 1,000-piece quantities.
