AMREL Debuts SPS/HPS Series Power Supplies

August 15, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

American Reliance Inc. (AMREL, Arcadia, CA) debuted its new SPS and HPS Series of programmable switching power supplies, an expansion of its ePower line of power supplies, which are available with an embedded Ethernet interface suitable for high-speed, wireless communications applications. The ePower's SPS rack-mount units range from 1.2 kW to 30 kW, up to 800 Vdc, and 2,700 Adc. The HPS panel-mount units range from 20 kW to 900 kW, 10 Vdc to 2,500 Vdc, and 23 Adc to 7,500 Adc.

The SPS and HPS Series include models capable of being configured to act as either master and/or slave. Network control options available via Ethernet or RS-485 include the MC-2 and MCU-2. The MCU-2 allows the slave units to be connected in a star configuration via the Ethernet Bus. AMREL's technology has enabled the power supplies to have a wide selection of interface options, including front panel control, external (0 V to 10 V) analog control, and Ethernet/USB. The front panel contributes to the ease of programming. The ePower SPS and HPS units offer precise line/load regulation in addition to low peak-to-peak ripple-noise.

With the ability to control up to 31 individual slave units through one master unit, managing multiple outputs through one controller enables users a greater range of flexibility and more efficient transmission of data. The SPS Series offers GPIB/SCPI, RS-232, Ethernet and USB interfaces, closed-case calibration, 10-turn potentiometer for voltage and current control, programmable protection modes, master/slave capabilities, and full-function keypad control with auto-sequencing and triggering. The HPS Series offers high dielectric voltage tolerance, closed-case calibration, certified LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW for GPIB, Serial, TCP/IP communications, high efficiency, and high power factor (<0.9 PF) operation.
