Absopulse Introduces 50W, Compact DC-DC Converters for Railway Applications

April 19, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. introduced the MIM 50R Series of rugged compact dc-dc converter modules targeting railway applications. Designed for powering video surveillance equipment on trains, these modules are also suitable for a wide range of mobile environments.

These 50W units are housed in compact 66 x 38 x 163mm vented enclosures, weigh 400g and are designed to be chassis-mounted. They operate over a -40 to 70°C cold-plate temperature range without derating. Cooling is via baseplate to a heatsinking surface and by natural convection.

Nominal input voltages are 24, 48, 72, 96 or 110Vdc with wide (EN 50155) input ranges; the units deliver single outputs of 12 or 24Vdc. Other input and output voltages are available on request.

The MIM 50R series meet relevant railway standards including EN 50155, EN50121-3-2 conducted and radiated EMI, EN 55022 Class B, and EN 61000 immunity. These modules are fully ruggedized and conformal coated for immunity to shock, vibration and moisture. They have 3kVdc input to output isolation, inrush current limiting and reverse polarity protection at the input. Over-voltage protection, over-current, short circuit and thermal protection are standard.

The MIM 50R modules are priced under US$100 each at quantities.
