8V/6V Resettable PPTC Fuse with Low Resistance

May 16, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Bourns announced the addition of the 8V and 6V rated Model MF-FSML/X series to its Multifuse Product Line. The MF-FSML/X series are low resistance surface mount Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses. The new series includes Ihold current ratings from 0.35A to 1.75A at the 8V maximum rated voltage and Ihold current ratings from 2.0A to 3.0A at the 6V maximum rated voltage.

Typical applications for the fuses include providing thermal protection for wearables as well as use in Li-ion & polymer battery packs, and delivering plug & play protection for PC motherboards, and charging protection for mobile phones, digital cameras battery. Other uses include providing HDMI 1.4 source protection and gaming console port protection

Bourns' low resistance conductive materials that the product uses give it post-trip resistance values as low as 0.05Ω and initial resistance values as low as 0.003Ω. Such low resistance helps boost the device's current carrying capability.

The Model MF-FSML300/6-2 now offers 3.0A Ihold at 6Vdc in a tiny 0603 package. With the company's innovative freeXpansion™ design, Model MF-FSML/X series increases the performance of the resettable fuse.

The resettable fuse comes in surface mount packaging for automated assembly. Its small size and low profile make it suitable for space-constrained applications.
