220mF Low-Profile Supercapacitors

New Products Dec 14, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has expanded Supercapacitor DMT series lineup, with addition of 220mF model with the lowest profile. Supercapacitors (EDLCs), with longer life time than batteries are energy storage devices with higher capacitance than what is typically found in conventional capacitor technology such as ceramic capacitors or electrolytic capacitors. Murata's supercapcitors feature the lowest levels of ESR throughout the industry. There are two series: DMT series featuring wide operation temperature range and high reliability can be used for various applications. DMF series featuring ultra-low ESR less than 100mΩ is suitable for high-power applications.

In recent years there is growing demand for lower profile for devices such as SSD or card-type devices. With this in mind, Murata has added 220mF model with the lowest profile in DMT series lineup. It will contribute to make end product thinner or improve end-product performance by stabilizing power line.

Thin product thickness of 2.2mm was achieved with high capacity of 220mF and low ESR of 300mΩ. Same as existing DMT series lineup having wide operation temperature range and long cycle life, it can be used for back up or peak power assist function for various devices.

These devices measure 21mm x 14mm x 2.2mm and are rated for operation from -40 to +85 degrees C. Applications are expected to include: Back up for enterprise SSD or professional use devices which need communication system backup or data backup. Peak power assist for battery-driven low profile devices (RKE, smart key, data tracking devices, card-type devices, and so on). Peak power assist for data transmission in wireless communication devices such as sensor node. And auxiliary power supply for devices with beacon.
