Volvo Group (Sweden) launched its new "sustainable mobility concept" vehicle, the 3CC, which is taking part in the 2004 Michelin Challenge Bibendum at the new Shanghai Grand Prix circuit in China. With tapering rear bodywork, the vehicle prototype is a two-plus-one that has an aerodynamic efficiency rating that is 30% better than the latest S40 saloon.
The 3CC has a steel space frame, a one-piece carbon fiber bodyshell, and a sandwich floor construction with the electric powertrain between the two layers. The powertrain is very unusual; it uses lithium-ion cells - the same type as a laptop computer.
