US Appeals Court Reverses Samsung Contempt Order

March 18, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

IXYS Corp. (Santa Clara, CA), a leader in power semiconductors for power conversion and motion control applications, reported that the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reversed a contempt order against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. issued by the United States District Court for Central California for a purported violation of a permanent injunction against Samsung, and vacated any factual findings contrary to the basis for the ruling.

The Appeals Court's action means that an award of $2.5 million in damages against Samsung, for which IXYS might have been liable to Samsung, is vacated as a matter of law. The Appeals Court's actions in the Samsung matter are a final adjudication of these contempt proceedings.
