Trina Solar Announces Collaboration with E3/DC for Development of Energy Storage Solutions

June 12, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Trina Solar Limited announced a collaboration with Germany-based E3/DC to develop next generation energy storage solutions for homes and small businesses. After introducing Trinamount in 2011 and announcing the launch of Trinasmart recently, Trina Solar further strengthens its position as provider of solar energy solutions.

"We are very excited about this new collaboration," said Ben Hill, Head of Trina Solar Europe. "Storage is a key technology going forward. It helps to balance solar energy generation with consumption. Customers thus become independent from rising energy costs. We see increasing interest in storage solutions and wish to be at the forefront of this development. "

While the collaboration provides Trina Solar access to best-in-class storage technologies, E3/DC benefits from Trina Solar’s global footprint. "Trina Solar is a well established and well respected global solar brand," said Andreas Piepenbrink, managing partner of E3/DC. "Trina Solar’s sales and marketing offices throughout Asia-Pacific, Europe and Americas allow us to reach out to a multiple of markets and a broad scope of customers. This is a highly important and promising collaboration for us."

E3/DC powerstations are designed to be "mounted and used" without any additional cabling and decentral components. Households and small businesses can install the system wall mounted in the cellar or in the living room.

The E3/DC system uses Li-Ion (Typ 18650) cells from a leading japanese supplier. The system consists of four battery modules and a safety module (battery management) and provides 5 kWh energy storage for one day. The 48V battery system has a galvanic isolation and is maximum safe. Moderate inhouse temperatures and low power consumption provide up to 20 years battery lifetime.

The powerstation contains the power inverters to convert dc from the PV modules and the battery into the ac grid, connected or operating standalone in case of grid failure.

Solar energy is charged and discharged during day and night. To perfectly achieve a fully renewable, noiseless and comfortable power station for your home, the complete energy flows are measured and optimized. The system operates without any adjustment necessary. The display allows to show all relevant energy consumptions and the system information about state of charge, financial balances etc. Smartphones and browsers can operate the system completely remote based on E3/DC remote applications.
