ThunderPower Receives Government Funding for Hybrid Bus Project

April 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

ThunderPower LLC (San Diego, CA), a partnership between Thor Industries (Jackson Center, Ohio) and ISE Research Corp. (San Diego, CA), announced that it has received $740,000 in US-government funding to support development and demonstration of a super-modern transit bus. The envisioned bus would be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and a hybrid-electric drive system.

The US Department of Transportation funding was facilitated by two California-based consortia, the Sacramento Electric Transportation Consortium and WestStart/CALSTART. This funding will augment the investment of more than $1.0 million in this company by ThunderPower partners.
