Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park, CA) announced that it has completed the sale of its wafer fabrication facility in Santa Clara, California, to STI Foundry Inc. Semtech announced that it is exiting the foundry services business.
The sale of the Santa Clara wafer fab is part of Semtech's strategy to source a majority of its silicon wafers from outside foundries. Only certain proprietary silicon fabrication processes will continue to be supported internally at the company's other wafer fab facility.
Semtech reports that it expects no material financial impact as a result of the sale of the Santa Clara facility. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
