Second of Two Ameren Energy Power Plants Begins Commercial Operation

The second of two 117MW units at Ameren Energy's (St. Louis) Gibson City, IL plant began commercial operation on July 31, adding additional generation for late summer into the Mid-America Interconnected Network (MAIN). The plant's Unit One went online June 30. Reliant Energy (Houston) has begun construction on in mid-June on an 870MW plant in Aurora, IL. By 2003, 6,746MW of new generation is expected to be online in the MAIN region.
