Schaffner to Sell Off Test Equipment Businesses

July 27, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

In order to further develop its range of EMC safety components and maintain its position in the EMC safety market, Schaffner Ltd. (Wokingham, UK), a supplier of EMC components and test equipment, announced that it is seeking buyers for its test equipment and systems businesses. Schaffner recently evaluated its strategic position and decided to concentrate its resources on its EMC components business to further enhance its position. In order to do this it will sell its Test Systems Division, resulting in the eventual integration of these businesses into outside organizations with the required synergy and resources to further develop the technical strengths of Schaffner test equipment and ATE for the global market.

The proceeds of the sale will be invested in further product development. Schaffner intends to continue to offer products that meet the needs of changing and emerging EMC standards, and manufacturing process and materials. During the transition phase, Schaffner's staff will continue to offer service and support. The Components Division of Schaffner is active in the automotive, industrial electronics and telecommunications markets with its offering of components and modules that ensure the efficient and safe functioning of electronic devices.

Schaffner Managing Director Paul Dixon stated, "Seventy percent of our business is component sales and we need to continue to invest in new products and processes to maintain our market-leading position for the long term. We have had a very positive response to this decision from our major test equipment customers, and while we find the best partners for our Test Systems Division to join it will be 'business as usual' for sales, support and service."
