Saft (France), a multi-technology battery specialist for industrial, military, defense, aviation and space applications, announced that Saft America’s (Valdese, NC) lithium battery facility has delivered 2.5 million BA 5590 batteries to the US military since the end of 1999, the date of its most recent contract award. The BA 5590 battery is the US military's most widely used portable energy source, powering many types of communications devices used in combat throughout the armed services.

"Our portable lithium batteries are fielded more than any other power source in the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq-just as they were during the Gulf War," said Tom Alcide, general manager of Saft's Specialty Battery Group. "The reliability and dependability of our batteries, as well as their advanced technologies, make them ideal for in-theater situations. Our batteries are trusted by soldiers because they are superior products that have earned that trust."
