Opus One gets Strategic Investment from Energy Impact

September 14, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Opus One Solutions and Energy Impact Partners (EIP), an investment firm representing a utility-backed fund of six large utilities in North America, today announced a strategic partnership in support of Opus One's North American expansion. The partnership features an equity investment in Opus One through the EIP fund, and provides the company with collaboration opportunities with related utilities. The strategic partnership will accelerate Opus One's market growth and support further development of the company's advanced solutions to manage and modernize an increasingly distributed electricity grid.

"We look for emerging companies with real answers to today's energy challenges - solutions that are ready to scale with the help of our utility partners," commented Hans Kobler, CEO and Managing Partner at EIP. "Opus One is poised to become a key building block in the software-driven intelligent grid, and we and our partners are looking forward to working with them."

This partnership adds to a highly successful 2016 for Opus One. Along with being awarded Greentech Media's Grid Edge 2016 Award and CIO Energy Insights' Top 10 Best Smart Grid Solution Providers, Opus One's software platform GridOS® is being deployed with several utilities in Canada and the United States. Earlier this year, Opus One opened its first U.S. office with NYC ACRE at the Urban Future Lab, NYU Tandon to engage with utilities in New York State that are focused on NY REV, the State's plan to reform their energy vision.

"EIP and its utility partners bring unique industry strategic value to our market expansion efforts," said Joshua Wong, founder and CEO of Opus One Solutions. "We continue to push the limits of technology to address complex and emerging utility challenges, and this EIP partnership helps us to continue to innovate and leverage our existing utility deployments to meet the broad needs of a transforming electricity grid."

Using unique intellectual property with intelligent power engineering algorithms and analytics, Opus One provides electricity distribution utilities an unmatched degree of situational awareness for the energy grid. Through GridOS®, its real-time intelligent energy networking platform, sophisticated data analytics are applied to operate, manage, and optimize an increasingly distributed energy grid of solar and wind generation, battery storage, EV chargers, and other responsive demand. Along with enabling 100% clean energy deployment, benefits also include enhanced customer satisfaction, reduced energy costs, and new business models for utilities and empowered energy customers.
