O2Micro Granted DC/DC Converter System Patent

February 03, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

O2Micro International Ltd. (Santa Clara, CA), a supplier of power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, was granted nine claims under US patent number 6,504,735 for its regulated, voltage-reducing, high-voltage, isolated, dc/dc converter system. The patented invention describes a new topology for a high-voltage, isolated input, step-down dc/dc converter that delivers high current demanded by modern microprocessors used in desktop and server platforms.

"This new topology fits applications that require high-input and low-output voltages," stated Alex Hartular, O2Micro's vice president of the Intelligent Power business unit. "The unique design of the power controller enables this type of converter to provide very low voltage at high output currents from a single high-voltage source."
