December 26, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) reported that it will issue grants totaling $1.4 million for two hydrogen-powered vehicle demonstration projects -- one in Buffalo and one in Albany. Both projects will be managed by NYSERDA and the New York Power Authority.

American Wind Power and Hydrogen LLC will receive $709,000 to convert the internal-combustion engines on several light-duty vehicles owned by the University at Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority to hydrogen fuel. Plug Power Inc. and its partner American Honda Motor Co. Inc. will receive $735,000 for a project developed in cooperation with Air Products and Chemicals Inc. and Homeland Energy to construct and operate fueling stations for two Honda FCX hydrogen cell vehicles being leased by the state.
