Infineon Increases Focus on Comprehensive Automotive Power Solutions

March 18, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Infineon has brought together all of its automotive power ICs under a brand new trademark, OPTIREG™. The company claims that the OPTIREG automotive power supply IC portfolio is the broadest dedicated power IC portfolio for automotive applications currently available.

Automotive ECUs are made up of microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and communication block (networking). All of these functions need power. Therefore, a power supply is one of the primary supporting blocks in every automotive ECU

According to Infineon, with the broadest portfolio in the market, OPTIREG can meet every design challenge and can scale from discrete to fully integrated system solutions (supplying sensors, microcontrollers, actuators, and network ICs). OPTIREG covers every automotive power supply function from linear voltage regulators to dc-dcs; from tiny (TSNP) to thermally optimized (D2PAK) packages, and power ranges from 25mA to several amps.

Infineon notes that OPTIREG reflects its zero-defect product concept, to deliver outstanding robustness and benchmark quality. Customers have the added reassurance, according to Infineon, that OPTIREG™ even exceeds automotive stability and system integrity demands thanks to enhanced testing and benchmark defect rates.

In addition, OPTIREG assures business continuity and long-term product lifecycle management. The company says that with its dedicated frontend and backend in-house manufacturing facilities and our strong commitment to manufacturing excellence, OPTIREG promises robust security of supply.

The product family is comprised of three power supply solution types;  OPTIREG Switcher, OPTIREG PMIC, and OPTIREG Linear.

OPTIREG Switcher family is made up of power supply solutions for switch mode power supplies, including step-up and step-down converters and high-efficiency regulators.

  • Step-up and step-down converters
  • High-efficiency regulators
  • Wide supply voltage operation range
  • Very low current consumption operation
  • Suitable for standard 12V / 24V PowerNets
  • Disable function for main output
  • Output under-voltage reset with delay
  • Short-circuit protection
  • Over-temperatur protection
  • Wide ambient operation range - 40°C up to 150°C

OPTIREG PMIC family includes pre-/post-regulator concept: boost and buck/LDOs, and trackers for ICs (main, ADC/reference, StBy), as well as transceivers and sensors. It integrates functional safety (features supporting ASIL-D).

  • UV/OV-monitoring
  • Flexible watchdogs
  • Error-monitoring
  • Safe state controller with 2 outputs
  • BIST
  • Disable function for main output
  • Output under-voltage reset with delay
  • Short-circuit protection
  • Over-temperatur protection
  • Wide ambient operation range - 40°C up to 150°C

OPTIREG Linear family is made up of linear power supply solutions. These linear power supply solutions are suited for body, infotainment, chassis, safety, powertrain, and transmission applications.
