Motorola Closes Three Semi Design Units

March 09, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Following up on alignment initiatives announced last year, Motorola Inc. (Austin, TX) announced that it is shutting its semiconductor design units in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as the company consolidates in the Asia/Pacific. About 50 jobs will be lost in the transition, according to the company.

The company claimed the move is purely about lowering costs and maximizing design resources. "No US jobs are impacted here, and there is no impact on SPS product offerings," stated a Motorola spokeswoman.
