LDV Group Announces Two Low Carbon Initiatives For Electric Vehicles

April 20, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

The LDV Group, the UK-based manufacturer of the MAXUS range of light commercial vehicles, has announced two new initiatives to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its vehicles.

The LDV Group announced that it is one of a consortium of British companies led by motorsport specialist, Prodrive, which have joined forces to develop a dc-dc converter for use in automotive hybrid and electric vehicles. It is claimed that the converter will be more efficient, smaller and lower in cost than those currently available. The vehicles will recycle energy lost during the braking process through an electronic motor, which can then be used later.

It was also announced that LDV will work with Refrigerated Vehicles (UK) Ltd. (RVL) in the development of an electric powered version of MAXUS, which will be available as early as June of this year. RVL, in turn, has been working with Italy’s Micro-Vett Spa to develop a 3,500 kg electric vehicle that could be used for a supermarket’s home delivery operation within central London.

LDV states that it is set to reveal its the new MAXUS School Bus, alongside further new products from its growing MAXUS range including a new Aero Luton and Prestige Day-van.
