August 03, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Konarka Technologies Inc. (Lowell, MA), a developer and manufacturer of photovoltaic nano-materials products that convert light to energy, reported that it has added Nobel Laureate and former Bell Labs chief scientist Arno Penzias to its Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Council.

Penzias is the second Nobel Laureate to join Konarka's scientific team, which includes 2000 Nobel Prize winner Alan Heeger and the world leaders in semiconducting polymers and photovoltaics. Penzias will help direct Konarka's research, technology and product strategies. Penzias is a venture partner at New Enterprise Associates, the lead investor in Konarka's $18 million Series C round of financing.
