ITC to Investigate Power Integrations' Patent Infringement Claims

June 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Power Integrations Inc. (San Jose, CA), a supplier of high-voltage integrated circuits used in power conversion semiconductor technology, announced that the US International Trade Commission (ITC) has moved to institute an investigation into whether System General Corp. is infringing Power Integrations' US Patent Nos. 6,212,079; 6,351,398; 6,366,481; and 6,538,908.

The ITC's decision is the first step toward possible US government action to exclude certain System General products from the US market. The products in dispute are System General's pulse-width modulation integrated circuits and products that incorporate them, principally LCD monitors. If the ITC determines that System General products infringe any of Power Integrations’ patents and are being imported into the US, the ITC may order that those products, and any products incorporating, them be excluded from importation into the US.

"We are gratified that the ITC will commence a full investigation into System General's actions," said Power Integrations President and CEO Balu Balakrishnan. "We believe strongly that the ITC will find that System General's products infringe upon our intellectual property."

Power Integrations' complaint against System General is also pending in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California.
