HELLA Collaborates With Bender On Battery Management Systems

October 15, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

HELLA is partnering with Bender to develop a new isolation monitor for lithium-ion batteries which facilitates the safe and reliable operation of high voltage batteries for electric and advanced hybrid vehicles.

HELLA's advancement in developing an electronic system for monitoring lithium-ion batteries provides battery management algorithms to measure and monitor current, voltage, and temperature. The isolation monitor is a vital component of the system, providing effective protection against electric shock by carefully detecting the isolation resistance of the high-tension onboard system.

In partnership with Bender, HELLA is expanding its product portfolio into the field of high-voltage battery management. Since its development in 2003, the intelligent battery sensor has annually sold 8 million units. Today, it is a global leader in the field of battery sensors for 12V lead-acid batteries in automotive applications.

Focusing on high-voltage technology promises to provide the automotive supplier with greater market expansion opportunities and a highly favorable position in a rapidly growing industry. HELLA is leading the market in battery management systems for 12V lead-acid battery sensors. Bender has worked on electric isolation monitoring systems for more than 65 years, and is recognized as a technology expert throughout the world.
