The US Small Business Association (SBA) has announced that FuelCell Energy Inc. (FCE, Danbury, CT) is the recipient of the SBA's Tibbetts Award. This award is given annually to small firms, projects, organizations or individuals judged to exemplify the best in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR).Under a SBIR program supported by the US Dept. of Energy, FCE developed an approach to increase the strength of the matrix, a critical fuel cell component, by a factor of ten while reducing its cost by more than 50 percent. The resultant design enabled FCE to initiate commercialization of its DFC technology. Based on this success, FCE is now positioned to offer one submegawatt and two megawatt class DFC products for distributed power generation."This award distinguishes FCE and puts us in the fore-front of innovative research and technology," claims Jerry Leitman, president and CEO of the company.
