FPL Energy LLC (Juno Beach, FL), a subsidiary of FPL Group Inc. (Juno Beach, FL), announced that it will build, own and operate the Meyersdale Wind Energy Center, a 30MW wind farm in Pennsylvania. It will sell the electricity output to FirstEnergy Solutions, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (Akron, OH), under a long-term contract.
FPL Energy will construct 20 1.5MW wind turbines at a site in Somerset County near Meyersdale, in southwestern Pennsylvania. The turbines will have a generating capacity of 30MW, providing enough electricity to power approximately 12,000 homes. The project was developed by Atlantic Renewable Energy Corp. and Zilkha Renewable Energy LLC. Construction of the project will begin later this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2003.
