Fire Halts Vishay's Electro-Films Production Operations

February 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Electro-Films Inc. (EFI, Providence, RI), a business unit of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), has ceased production operations in its Rhode Island facility due to a fire that occurred on February 13, 2002. EFI manufactures thin-film components and networks on ceramic and silicon, including resistors, capacitors, inductors and microwave components.

“The fire originated in the plating area. At this point we are still trying to assess the extent of the damage," said Felix Zandman, chairman and CEO. “We have a team at the site to review the situation. The building, machinery and equipment, and inventory all appear to have sustained some level of damage. Currently no shipments are being made from the EFI facility to customers, and a plan of recovery is being elaborated.”
