June 30, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Delta Electronics, Inc. announced its latest high-efficiency solutions for solar energy generation, storage, management and environment control systems will power the "Orchid House," which is built to compete at the 2014 Solar Decathlon Europe by the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). The competition's object of promoting low-carbon housing with solar energy coincides with Delta's corporate mission. In addition, Delta sponsored the first team from Taiwan, NCTU Unicode team, to participate in the competition.

Yancey Hai, Chairman of Delta Electronics, said, "Our corporate mission is 'To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow', which guides our R&D efforts in delivering solutions with industry-leading energy conversion efficiency. From 2010 to 2013, our solutions helped the world reduce up to 11.9 billion kWh in electricity consumption, which is equivalent to a reduction of 6.38 million tons of carbon emissions to the environment. Delta's 11 certified green buildings, located worldwide, have also helped save up to 11.6 million kWh in 2013. Supporting NTCU Unicode's project underscores Delta's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and promoting the adaptation of green building, which we believe is a key driver for energy conservation and sustainability for years to come.”

Jackie Chang, general manager of Delta EMEA, emphasized, "Delta is a world-class provider of integrated solutions that are capable of improving the energy efficiency and competitiveness of our customers. Understanding and fulfilling the diverse needs of clients in different segments is a major pillar of our global success in the solutions integration business. The solutions implemented by for "Orchid House" deliver remarkable levels of energy generation and storage while enabling an integrated platform of intelligent energy management that truly fosters energy conservation while still satisfying comfort requirements of a building. We look forward to replicating this success throughout the EMEA region to allow our customers to achieve greater benefits from renewable energy sources.”

Chang, continued; “Our solution for the "Orchid House" consists of Delta BEMS (Delta Building Energy Management System) and the Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS). The Delta Building Energy Management System (Delta BEMS) will continue to strive for the Triple A -- Active in Sensing, Amicable of UI and Aptitude with Management -- and differentiate itself as a uniquely comprehensive Solution for Building Energy Management. Together with its unique vision in the integration, automation, and intelligence of Building Management, Delta is now in a very privileged position to help building owners achieve High Efficiency, not only in their energy spending but also in their operating expenditures; Its intelligent design Fuzzy Logic Inference and Self-adaptive Temperature Control, "knows" how to respect the "human touch" as to effectively preserve a decent indoor comfort while attaining its energy-saving goals.

“The Delta BEMS comprises an organic set of interoperating systems, including: Delta IoT (Internet of Things) Platform, Delta Centre (software data collection), Delta Expert (intelligent energy-saving), and Delta Energy Online (energy monitoring & control). Our client can order a customized architecture according to real application needs,” Chang observed.

“Delta BESS: The Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS) installed at the "Orchid House" demonstrates Delta's capabilities in integrating hardware and software for total solutions. A proprietary software platform designed by Delta enables a power controller to monitor and control all rectifiers, PV inverters and the Li-ion battery packs inside the BESS through power line communication (PLC). The system integrates several products by Delta, such as rectifiers that boast industry-leading efficiency of 96.2% and power density of 36.5 W/in3, and some are currently powering 3G and 4G LTE networks operated by tier-1 telecom carriers throughout the EMEA region. Delta's BESS delivers optimum conditions for reducing electricity bills by maximizing the utility of renewable energy systems,” Chang concluded.
