DCH Technology Announces Electric Water Taxi Demo

September 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

DCH Technology Inc. (Valencia, CA) announced that the California Air Resources Board is funding the implementation and demonstrations of an electric water taxi powered by DCH Enable fuel cells.

The DCH product used to power the water taxi is an Enable hydrogen PEM fuel cell capable of generating 1kW continuously with peak power approaching 2kW. A second DCH product, a 12W/12V Enable portable PEM fuel cell, powers on-board instrumentation, navigation and communications equipment. The vessel is also equipped with DCH hydrogen-specific sensors for safety.

"Widespread use of fuel cells in water craft would certainly help California's efforts to reduce air pollution," said Dr. Alan Lloyd, chairman of the California Air Resources Board. "The water taxi is another example of a practical, everyday use for this space-age, non-polluting technology."

The water taxi will also be demonstrated September 12-13, 2001, in San Diego, CA; September 25-27, 2001, in San Francisco, CA; October 3-4, 2001, in Sacramento, CA; and October 10-11, 2001, in Tahoe City, CA.
