C&D Ups Battery Prices

November 27, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Mansfield, MA) announced today it would increase prices by 5 percent on all 10- and 20-year battery products to offset higher raw materials and energy costs. The increase, which includes hardware, components and parts, will go into effect with orders placed starting Jan. 1.

"With the continuing rise in costs of raw materials and energy, including such key inputs as lead, copper and high-performance plastics, fuel for transportation and plant utility costs, we can no longer absorb these increases without some measure of relief," said John Kalmuck, vice president of power system sales.

"While this increase in no way captures all increases we have experienced in recent months, we are hopeful this action, combined with accelerated efforts to improve operational efficiencies through our recently launched 'Continuous Improvement' initiative, will bridge us until more stable conditions return to the supply chain,” Kalmuck concluded.
