Bombardier Wins Contract for UK Electric Rail Cars

The transportation division of Bombardier Inc. (Montreal, Canada) has won a $757.0 million contract to manufacture electric rail cars for a UK train operator. The order with Connex South Eastern includes the manufacturing of 228, class-375, Electrostar electric cars, valued at $424.0 million, and a 30-year maintenance agreement worth $333.0 million.

The trains will be manufactured at Bombardier Transportation's production facility in Derby, England, and delivered as four-car units. Deliveries will start in October 2002 and run through to December 2004.
