Arrow Electronics and Luminary Micro Announce Americas Distribution Agreement

September 13, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

The North American Components (NAC) business of Arrow Electronics, Inc. announced that they have entered into a franchise and distribution agreement with Luminary Micro Inc.. Effective immediately, customers will have access to Luminary Micro's Stellaris microcontroller products through Arrow's sales and support centers in the Americas.

"We are very excited to add Luminary Micro's Stellaris microcontroller products to our linecard," said Theron Makley, Director, Engineering, Arrow. "With cost effective microcontrollers starting at $1 for ARM Cortex-M3-based processors, Stellaris products fill a very important gap in Arrow's current lineup of ARM-based microcontrollers."

Luminary Micro's Stellaris family of microcontrollers currently contains 19 feature-rich microcontrollers, supported by cost-effective development kits and low-cost evaluation kits, all available through Arrow Electronics. The Stellaris line of MCUs is targeted at embedded and industrial applications, such as building and home automation; factory automation and control; industrial control power devices; stepper motors; brushed and brushless dc motors; and ac induction motors.

Makley added, "Together, Luminary Micro's Stellaris microcontroller implementations, along with Arrow's offering of world-class ARM software tools and development systems, provide a pervasive 32-bit MCU solution that will help break down traditional cost barriers between 🙄16- and 32-bit. This enables embedded developers to consolidate their software platforms and tool chain costs across their entire product line."

Arline Nieder, Vice President, Sales, Luminary Micro, said, "We are delighted to enter this strategic partnership with Arrow Electronics, the unsurpassed leader in microcontroller distribution. Arrow brings to the partnership access to more than 40,000 customers in North America, an outstanding logistics model and a very capable design-in support infrastructure. Together with Luminary Micro's established channel of manufacturer's representatives, we will reach customers in many locations and market segments that we would otherwise not be able to serve effectively."
