July 07, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

AEA Technology Battery Systems (UK), a developer of lithium-ion batteries and portable power sources, reported that it will locate a research facility in Starkville in a partnership with Mississippi State University (MSU). Initially, the company will share space with MSU's Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory at the Cochran Research Park in Starkville.

The company anticipates developing a 30,000 ft² to 40,000 ft² manufacturing facility on 10 to 15 acres in the Lowndes County Industrial Park near the Golden Triangle Regional Airport in Columbus. The plant would employ fewer than 100 people.

"AEA is an international company with several US sites, and we're delighted that they will expand research, development, and manufacturing operations into Mississippi," said MSU President Charles Lee.
