ADS-TEC and TEAG Extend Collaboration to Generate Enhanced High-Power Charging Solutions

February 18, 2021 by Stephanie Leonida

ADS-TEC Energy and TEAG agree to further collaboration to create more powerful fast-charging systems for electrical vehicle customers in areas with limited grid connection.

ADS-TEC Energy designs manufactures, and supplies battery storage solutions and high-power fast-charging systems for electric vehicles (EVs). Another subsidiary company of the ADS-TEC group is ADS-TEC Industrial IT. This company specializes in the development and supply of industrial computing and IT systems for engineering, automation, logistics, medical, and automotive sectors.

Recently, ADS-TEC Energy made an agreement with residential and commercial electricity and natural gas supplier, Thüringer Energie AG (TEAG). The two companies agreed to collaborate more extensively to develop fast-charging solutions for areas with limited connection to the grid.

In 2020, ADS-TEC Energy and TEAG completed the construction of Thuringia's first high power charging (HPC) fast-charging station with battery integration. The two companies are now working together to bring customers a power-amplified fast-charging system for their EVs.

Enhancing EV Charging

ADS-TEC has developed a series-ready HPC fast-charging system with up to 320 kW charging power. The new technology is intended for the new HPC charging station at the TEAG campus in Erfurt. The innovation here lies in the battery system which acts as an HPC-Booster. It amplifies power to provide charging at the HPC level in locations with limited connection to the grid. The developers at ADS-TEC were able to integrate system components including, the battery power electronics, air-conditioning technology, and control system, into the new HPC charging station, all the while maintaining a compact cabinet with a small floor space.

In a recent press release, Division Manager for Mobility at TEAG, Ingo Bergmann, commented: "For us, this charging technology from ADS-TEC, which is now ready for series production, opens up completely new possibilities for the use of HPC chargers." Bergmann added: "The storage system creates more flexible connection options even in the ‘smallest’ power grids and is saving therefore high grid investments. We see applications, for example, at car dealerships, gas stations, supermarkets and also in residential areas." The team at TEAG believe that ADS-TEC’s expertise and technology will be able to support the company with meeting broad market demand.

The CEO of ADS-TEC, Thomas Speidel, commented further on the company’s cooperation with e-mobility expert, TEAG: “TEAG is an ideal partner because, as an area supplier, the company has great experience in the responsibility for infrastructure, energy systems and the supply of several hundred thousand end customers. Fast charging is now being added as a further component to the energy system and TEAG will close the gap at power-limited locations with the highly innovative fast charging systems from ADS-TEC. This is entirely in the interest of future customers who can´t always drive to large charging parks, but also want to recharge fast decentralized.”
